A video remix of a riff written as a theoretical response to the concept of post-industrial media education.
Ramblings of a Post-industrial Media Maker is what I refer to as a ‘video riff’. It is a remix of a text riff that was written as a theoretical response to a forum held on the concept of post-industrial media education in the Media program, at RMIT University. The original text riff explored the question – What is a post-industrial media maker? Reflecting on the shifts occurring in my own practice and teaching within the field of new media, I put forward a framework for an approach towards a post-industrial media practice.
In the video riff, I put into practice the notion of what it is to be a post-industrial media maker. Using a smartphone I documented a weekend stroll through the inner city streets of Melbourne. Everyday moments during that journey are documented as vignettes and processed using an iSupr8 film app, as they were recorded. The vignettes as single shots are trimmed using the editor on the smartphone then presented chronologically. The work reflecting the everyday practice of making home movies is presented as a 8mm film, with the idea for others to be able to remix sound and music from different contexts over the images.
